About Charles Jean-Baptiste Collin-Mézin
Collin-Mézin is probably one of the best known Frech Luthiers of the 19th Century. names in the violin trade.
About the violin
It is an exceptionally fine French violin and represents the best of the characteristics. The two piece back is of highly figured maple and the front is two pieces of book-matched, straight-grained spruce. The varnish is a rich red colour and the violin has a length of back of 356mm.
The beautiful violin come with the original maker’s certificate in 1931 and maker’s classic “Collin Mezin”signature inside the back plate. Also accompanied by a certificate from VATELOT-RAMPAL.
How does it sound?
The tone is big, fruity and projecting but with a distinctly pure and clean character. Like so many great French instruments, it seems almost impossible to spoil the sound! Tonally, the sound mirrors the look of the instrument: both are precise and of striking beauty. Suitable for professional players.
