French master violin made by the Collin-Mezin in 1933. A lovely violin with lots of character from a very sought after maker, these fine quality Collin-Mezin instruments are becoming increasingly very difficult to find, this example is a Victorieux model with the flatter centre to the table, described by many as his golden era.

This violin is in excellent condition, and displays the consistently fine workmanship for which Collin-Mézin violins are renowned. The scroll has the typical extra turn.Colin-Mézin trade instruments have a time-tested reputation, and this one is in a particularly fine state of preservation.

Charles J.B. Collin-Mezin

Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin was born at Mirecourt. He apprenticed under his father, C.L. Collin, and quickly became a skilled repairer and maker. In 1886 he moved to Paris, where he became one of the century’s most important luthiers. His violins, violas, and cellos were played by many prominent musicians of the time who compared his work to that of the old masters.
This violin has a big and full tone, making it an ideal violin for the player needing the power to project above an orchestra. Suitable for professional players.
